Year 7 Literacy and Numeracy Catch Up Premium

Year 7 Literacy and Numeracy catch up premium 2016/17

In 2016/17 we received £9,500 catch up premium, we had identified that a number of year 7s had not made the expected progess in literacy and numeracy, and that this was due to their issues around being ready to learn. We therefore decide to use the premium to employ art and drama therapists to work with those pupils, to improve ther readiness to learn.

The impact of this therapy has been positive. For example pupils have been calmer in lessons, developed greater self worth and pride in their work. This has improved their ability to manage relationships with adults and peers. Across the year 7s all the pupils made good or excellent progress in one or more of the core areas.

Year 7 literacy and numeracy catch up premium

The literacy and numeracy catch-up premium gives schools additional funding to support year 7 pupils who did not achieve at least the expected standard in English and/or maths at the end of key stage 2 (KS2).

In the academic year 2015/16 we received £6,000 catch up premium.

This was spent mainly on extending the variety of reading books on offer, to encourage progress in reading.

It also contributed to enhancing staffing, to provide more individual learning support to pupils. As well as providing additional support during literacy and numeracy sessions, this has enabled us to support pupil’s social and emotional needs, which means that they are ready to focus on literacy and numeracy targets.
